Ancient Apocalypse: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) David Wengrow The Nation Ancient Apocalypse sets a trap for people like me. In it, archaeologists are portrayed not just as suppressors of the truth but also as inveterate snobs and dogmatists... Dec 22, 2022 Full Review Ancient Apocalypse: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) James Delingpole The Spectator There were times when I felt as if, at every turn, Hancock’s fascinating ideas were being undermined by a series producer determined to make him look a bit slippery and unreliable. Konrad D Fascinating stuff! Kind of reminds me of Ancient Aliens. Really fun to think about and very interesting to see all the ancient sites and listen to the theories surrounding the unknown. Loved it! Looking forward for season two. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Freja K While Hancock is charasmatic and the show is set up in a good way, i cannot reccomend it. While the theory in itself is not dangerous, just like with other psudoscience theories about mistrustimg science it can act like a gateway to things like climate change denial and medical mistrust... The theory postulated shuld be easily proovable thrugh genetics or archeology if true, Grayham has to go to obsqure sites that have little to no other well known study or documentarys on them, the whole way thrugh i was thinking "I'd rather have a documetory series on theese sites instead" Rated 1.5/5 Stars • Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Alexander P I really enjoyed it and got his book after watching it. Can recommend for spiritual and mystical ideas of the human past beyond mainstream. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Audience Member Unfortunately, archeology does not consist of having an original idea and then going to outstanding sites all over the world and wanting to see pseudo-indications of a pseudo-thesis there. Archeology is a strict science that painstakingly searches for clues, not for the most original story, but for the most plausible explanation, always as close to the truth as possible. Unfortunately, the journalist completely avoided this effort and the passion it required. The journalist states several times that he is now the mortal enemy of all archaeologists. That's not true, we're just annoyed. We already have enough experience with Erich von Däniken and his friends. Nevertheless, it is a shame that such a great site like Göbekli Tepe, which has been the subject of decades of work by great scientists, has to be used for such lies. And of course: Göbekli Tepe was created by hunter-gatherer cultures, without any writing or the help of anyone else. That's the great thing about it. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Samantha C All the negative reviews calling him a pseudoscientist etc. are just abusive. He is a journalist, who's job is to explore ideas and possibilities. He doesn't claim to be correct - he claims he has a notion worth exploring, and I have to commend him for that.It seems anytime someone dare have a radical idea and we courageous enough to explore it, they are met with hate and shame and insults. So many ideas in history were outrageous and ridiculed (lightbulb anyone) until they weren't!I thought he was very mindful not to claim anything as fact (except those things which have been given common consensus by archaeologists and science) and i think his passion is sincere and some of his logic really sound. Especially his theories around the connection to the land and astronomy. I can absolutely jump onboard that people had a deeper and different type of intelligence than what we had today, completely plausible. It just seems like he's upset a lot of people by daring to have a different view, and being willing to not only research it, but be public in his quest. I'll respect anyone who is willing to explore an idea, risk being wrong, risk being shamed, all in search of the truth. How often he is character assassinated in the media, to me, is what tells me he might actually be onto something. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/24 Full Review Trevor L Overall, I found a lot of the information being presented interesting and worth looking more into with many of the subjects. But I have to say, whoever is the sound engineer/designer on the show, really has over-produced it and has put me off watching further. I have a hard time focusing on the shows content because of the overly dramatic sound effects. This is not 'Mandalorian' or 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. It is a documentary.
