Bold opening: Hack or not, your mind could be the battleground—and the stakes are higher than you think. Welcome to a gripping new thrill ride that redefines espionage on screen.
What happens when someone gains access to your brain? That provocative question sits at the heart of Peacock’s upcoming series The Copenhagen Test. In this espionage thriller, Simu Liu stars as Alexander Hale, a first-generation Chinese-American intelligence analyst who discovers his own mind has been hacked, granting the hackers access to everything he sees and hears. With his thoughts and perceptions hijacked, Hale must navigate loyalties between a shadowy intelligence agency and the unidentified intruders, all while performing at peak capacity around the clock to uncover the culprits and determine where his allegiance truly lies.
The trailer, produced by UCP, dropped on Monday and announces that all episodes will premiere on December 27. Alongside Liu, the cast includes Melissa Barrera, Sinclair Daniel, Brian d’Arcy James, Mark O’Brien, and Kathleen Chalfant. Barrera portrays the agent assigned to monitor Hale, though the trailer teases there may be more to her role than a simple watchful eye.
In a playful tug of the trailer banter, Barrera’s character jokes about playing the girlfriend, prompting Hale to reply that she might simply be keeping tabs on him. The dynamic hints at potentially ambiguous relationships and layered loyalties that could complicate Hale’s fragile control over his own mind.
The creative team is led by Thomas Brandon, who serves as creator, executive producer, writer, and co-showrunner. Jennifer Yale joins as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Liu, James Wan, Michael Clear, Rob Hackett, and Mark Winemaker. Jet Wilkinson directs and produces the first two episodes, with UCP as the studio behind the series.
